A Letter from a Member and our Survey ResultsThu, 12/20/2007 at 11:17I received the following e-mail from Cub (our wonderful volunteer who among other things decorates for our holidays and who received our Special Events Volunteer of the Year Award this year). Before I give you the results of the survey I want to share her letter with you. It's amazing and I hope you all take what she has to say to heart. Dear Fellow Members and Volunteers of CSPC,
The Wet Spot lives in language. It exists because we say it does. It is
more then the building and the equipment.
We as members and volunteers have the honor and right to say how it comes
into existence.
I choose to say it is a place of wonderment and excellence.
I choose to call it "home".
I choose to call it a part of my life and a part of my community.
What are some of the things that you call it?
When we choose to volunteer at the Center, do we chose to do it
intentionally or unintentionally.
When doing bondage, i take a rope and place it, tie it and arrange it just "so". I know that when i have done a knot and it is just not the way that i
wanted it to turn out, it makes the scene feel "out of sorts". When a scene
comes together in a way that all of it just flows and comes out just exactly
like i had hoped it would, it makes me feel so good, powerful and proud of what
i have done.
To me intentional is also about impeccability.
If you were making your bed, took the sheet and wadded it up and threw it
into the middle of the bed and took your fluffy comforter and spread it out on
the bed. You would be the only one that knew that the bed was not made
impeccably. Things done without intention and impeccability take energy away
from us. (Energy sucker)
Now if I took that sheet and pulled it tight and tucked it in just "so"
that would be something that would give me energy. WOW what a difference that
makes.
I have a request of all members and volunteers. When you come to the
Center/Wet Spot, come with the spirit of ownership and desire to take care of
OUR Space. If there is a piece of paper on the floor, pick it up. Use a paper
towel to wipe up the sinks in the bathroom when you are done using it!!!
Treat the Center like it belongs to you, IT DOES!!
Every hour we volunteer and every dollar we pay at the Center is a payment
to keep IT alive for US to enjoy.
Give generously and genuinely.
Sincerely
A member and volunteer of the Center
Cub
SURVEY RESULTS
I want to thank all of you who responded to my informal survey. I was
thrilled to get over 60 responses and some incredible suggestions for parties
and events (some are already in the works and some will happen). I think my
favorite idea was the Speed Massage event, which I'm going to figure out how to
make happen.
Here are some statistics from the survey and a sneak preview of programming
for next year (does not include those who voted no or N/A).
Events on Mondays 16% -- Wednesday 34% -- Both days 39%.
people wanting just BDSM 10%
people wanting just Sex Focused 20%
people wanting just Dancing 6%
people wanting sex and dancing 11%
people wanting BDSM and dancing 11 %
people wanting sex and BDSM. 6%
people wanting all three. 25%
I received a huge list of party suggestions -- game nights, mixers and
other ways for people to connect came up the most. We'll be looking at all of
our programming over the next few months to see how we can implement as many of
these ideas as possible.
Because of the survey, we'll start having Monday and Wednesday events
beginning sometime in January. I am currently working on creating the teams
for the two events and need volunteers who can work those evenings. Monday will
be a BDSM focused event in the Annex and Wednesday will be a dance, with less of
a BDSM focus (play in the back room) and more of a sex focus in the Main Space.
We also plan on starting a Tuesday Daytime Playtime event, because of the
interest of some of our members in having a weekday daytime play opportunity.
We can't produce these events without staff to run them. Primarily we need
Event Coordinators, Cashiers and Floor Staff (a cross between an Ambassador and
a Monitor). For the Daytime Playtime we need two people who can hang out from
about 11AM to 5PM and be there to let people in, supervise and take money. If
you're interested in being on any of our event Teams (for the new events or
existing events -- each event has its own Team) e-mail me at
director@sexpositiveculture.org and we'll get you started.
